Lazy Bums, Be More Like the Busy Little Bee Foraging for Food with Glee!
The museum collection Lazy Bums, Be More Like the Busy Little Bee Foraging for Food with Glee! is dedicated to Carniolan honey bees. It presents their living environment, members of the honey bee colonies, bee products and how bees and humans make them.
The collection highlights the importance of bees in pollination and explains the possible consequences of the bees’ endangered status due to pollution and climate change, as well as the role bees play in the Slovenian cultural heritage.
Grey Bee’s Educational Trail
You can learn all about the Carniolan honey bees while walking the Grey Bee’s Educational Trail set up close to the Beekeepers’ House. The educational trail consists of ten stations, which are equipped with beehives, apiaries and display boards with information about the honey bee colonies and the bees’ dwelling places.
Along the trail, there are several beehives inhabited by bees – now you are in the middle of the bees’ territory, so please refrain from shouting, trampling on the plants along the trail and destroying the bees’ homes. To protect yourself from bee stings, wear suitable long-sleeved clothing and closed footwear.
All visitors view the educational trail at their own risk. People who are allergic to bee stings are advised against the visit.
