Textile Art Biennial BIEN 2023 in Škofja Loka
With its programs of textile art, industrial design and land art, BIEN is biennially presented in the form of exhibitions and projects that reflect on heritage, conservation and sustainability, drawing from the biological, geological and archaeological features of space, environment, identities, industrial heritage and traditional knowledge, and creating new contemporary expressions. BIEN promotes interdisciplinary artistic integration with projects and residencies, it presents the works of international and domestic artists, with a special emphasis on the best works of current Slovenian and international student production, and it understands that the future of art is also in the public and digital space.
BIEN was initiated by the Carnica Institute from Kranj and it is jointly organized by Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Design, an independent higher education institution, as well as numerous partners. More information: https://layer.si/bien/en/
BIEN 2023 in Škofja Loka
Part of the exhibitions in Škofja Loka is dedicated to the Nordic focus, where the Finnish textile and environmental artist Kaarina Kellomäki, who will create her artwork live in the castle garden of the Škofja Loka Museum between 29 May and 1 June, is presented; Varka Kozlovič, a Slovenian living in Denmark, who creates embroidered drawings in an abstract manner, and the Swedish textile designer Selma Wallbom.
Selected student works will also be presented in the premises of the museum and in the castle garden, and special attention will be paid to the paintings and graphics of France Mihelič by the students of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana at the Carbonization exhibition, which will be on display in the France Mihelič Gallery in Kašča.
Opening of BIEN 2023
The Textile Arts Biennial BIEN 2023 in Škofja Loka opens on Friday, 2 June:
- 5:00 PM opening of the Carbonization exhibition in the France Mihelič Gallery (Spodnji trg 1)
- 6:00 PM artist talk with Kaarina Kellomäki in the Castle Garden (Škofja Loka Castle)
- 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM official opening of the Biennial BIEN 2023 in Škofja Loka in the courtyard of the Škofja Loka Museum
On this day, all BIEN locations will be open from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
