The Fullness of Emptiness

The Fullness of Emptiness

Since 2007, the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia has been organising national thematic exhibitions. Designed as a longer process, these exhibitions are held biennially, as the aim of the project is not only to showcase quality results of amateur artistic creativity, but also to facilitate the development and growth of artistic production. The selected themes are conceived in a way that encourages artists to tackle various artistic and content-related challenges.

In 2023, the national thematic exhibition titled The Fullness of Emptiness explored the question of the fine art space as one of the basic elements of fine art. The activities aimed at helping the participants learn about the topic included the publication of a handbook and free training. Amateur artists from all over Slovenia submitted their works to be selected for ten regional exhibitions, and out of a total of 470 entries the regional selectors chose 254 works. Of these, the national selector Robert Lozar chose 48 works for the 9th national thematic exhibition The Fullness of Emptiness. All the selected works are in line with the theme, are original in terms of content and technique, and are artistically convincing in the sense that the form, colour, composition and materials have a harmonious effect. The exhibited paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, prints, assemblages and mixed-media artworks thus create a new whole, which testifies to the diversity and quality of amateur creativity in Slovenia.

The exhibition Fullness of Emptiness is part of the exhibition-research project Together. and is one of three exhibitions on display in two galleries at Škofja Loka Castle (the Castle Gallery and the Round Tower).
