The Tales of the Visoko Homestead
The Visoko Homestead – also known as the Tavčar Homestead, the Tavčar Mansion or the Kalan Mansion – is one of Slovenia’s most important architectural monuments. It constitutes the pinnacle of the development of rural architecture, reflecting the economic power and spiritual horizons of the richest class of farmers in Slovenia in the second half of the 18th century. Its present-day appearance is a result of gradual development that took place between the homestead’s first mention in written sources in the 13th century and the final changes in the 20th century.
In 2016, together with the Municipality of Gorenja vas - Poljane and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia – Ljubljana Regional Office, we put on display the following permanent museum collections:
- Historical and Architectural Development of the Visoko Homestead
- The Collection of Ivan and Franja Tavčar
- The Kalan Family in Visoko
- The Visoko Kitchen in the 19th Century
